Routine Foot Care Services

Routine foot care services can include:

  • Removal or cutting corns or calluses

  • Hyperkeratosis or keratotic lesions, keratoderma, plantar keratosis

  • Clipping, cutting, trimming, or debriding toenails

  • Preventative or hygienic maintenance:

    • Soaking/cleaning

Most of the time, Medicare and insurance do not cover routine foot care, except when medically necessary, such as:

  • An underlying disease or condition makes the performance of routine services hazardous to the patient

  • The service is necessary as part of an otherwise covered procedure (treatment for warts, ulcer treatment)

Underlying diseases or conditions considered to pose hazards in the performance of non-professional services include:

  • Diabetes

  • Peripheral neuropathy

  • Arteriosclerosis

  • Chronic thrombophlebitis
