Minor In-Office Surgical Procedures

Surgery used to be done only in hospitals. Then, they moved some of them to outpatient centers. With anesthetic technology advances, some doctors can now perform minor procedures in their clinic.

In-office procedures use local anesthetic while the patient is wide awake. Although awake, the patient is not required to watch the repair or even see the surgical site. No pre-op physical is needed, no fasting the night before the surgery, and no overnight stays in a hospital. The patient may go home after the procedure is finished, and the patient may drive themselves to and from the clinic.

Some in-office procedures available include:

  • Nail bed repair

  • Laceration repair

  • Cyst removal

  • Trigger finger release

  • Carpal tunnel release

  • Tendon repair

Strict sterilization techniques are used, as with any type of surgery.

  • Equipment used is sterilized in an autoclave

  • Surgical soap, gloves, and gowns are required

  • Surgical cleanser is used to clean the surgical site

Save time with in-office surgical procedures. There are fewer tests and appointments needed. Patients can resume most regular daily activities immediately. With no recovery from general anesthesia, recovery is easier and allows the patient to go home following the procedure.

Save money by avoiding extensive pre-op testing and avoiding hospital and operating room costs.

Take advantage of more flexibility. Avoiding the operating room is a good option for patients nervous about general anesthesia and also gives access to these procedures to patients who are high-risk for general anesthesia due to other health conditions.
