Routine Foot Care Services
Routine foot care services can include:
Removal or cutting corns or calluses
Hyperkeratosis or keratotic lesions, keratoderma, plantar keratosis
Clipping, cutting, trimming, or debriding toenails
Preventative or hygienic maintenance:
Soaking/cleaning
Administration of skin creams
Any services not related to illness or injury.
Most of the time, Medicare and insurance do not cover routine foot care, except when medically necessary, such as:
An underlying disease or condition makes the performance of routine services hazardous to the patient
The service is necessary as part of an otherwise covered procedure (treatment for warts, ulcer treatment)
Underlying diseases or conditions considered to pose hazards in the performance of non-professional services include:
Diabetes
Peripheral neuropathy
Arteriosclerosis
Chronic thrombophlebitis
