Foot Surgery
The feet and ankles are very complex and intricate. The variety of problems that can occur with the feet and ankles require a wide range of surgeries to repair. Dr. Paukovitz and Dr. Crabtree are highly skilled in corrective surgery.
A few of the most common foot and ankle surgeries are:
Bunions: A woman's high heels are the most common cause of bunions. The big toe joint becomes deformed and bends towards the other toes. An osteotomy is the straightening of the big toe and metatarsals.
Hammertoe: When the toes become deformed and clawed, it is called a hammertoe and is very painful. The surgery is called an arthroplasty and is the removal of the deformed joint.
Plantar fasciitis: Rarely does plantar fasciitis require surgery, but in severe cases, the inflamed plantar fascia needs to be released from the heel bone. The procedure is not very complicated.
Morton's neuroma: Painful thickening of the tissue around the nerves of the toes is another symptom that can be caused by wearing high-heeled shoes. Pain relief is provided by removing the painful nerve.
Achilles tendon: A problem with the Achilles tendon can be caused by injury or wear and tear. Surgery is sometimes performed for inflammation that will not heal with conservative treatment.
